Don’t Expect TCL to Support AirPlay 2 in Its Smart TVs Any Time Soon

Image
Apple decided that 2019 was going to start off with a bang as the company announced that AirPlay 2 support was landing on several different smart TVs from different brands. So far up to this point, Samsung kicked things off in announcing AirPlay 2 support for its smart TV lineup. Soon after that, we heard that Vizio was doing the same thing , followed by Sony and LG announcing support . That basically means all of the major TV manufacturers are on board with this, which makes sense as Apple is going big with this particular shift in strategy. Of course, with all the attention being put on the biggest TV manufacturers, what about some of the other brands out there? TCL, for instance, has started to gain traction with the TV market in the United States, so would that company be adopting support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit at some point in the future? Turns out that’s a big no. MacRumors got a comment from a TCL spokesperson on this very subject, learning that the tV manufacturer ha...

Best Buy 2-Day Sale Discounts iPad Pro by $150, 9.7-inch iPad by $75

Image
Best Buy is offering some sweet discounts on various Apple products for the weekend including discounts of up to $75 on the 9.7-inch iPad, $400 on the iPhone XR and iPhone XS, iPad Pro, and more. The deals on the iPad Pro from Best Buy are pretty sweet, but discounts on other Apple products are not that attractive. Amazon and B&H have been frequently discounting the 9.7-inch iPad by $100, so Best Buy’s $75 discount pales in comparison to it. iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR For the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR, Best Buy is offering a $400 gift card provided you trade-in your existing iPhone and have a qualified activation. There are also carrier offers, with Verizon offering up to $300 discount and AT&T and Sprint running a BOGO offer. ➤ Deal iPhone X Best Buy has started selling the unlocked variant of the iPhone X for $899. It is currently offering a $50 discount on it if you have a qualified activation. ➤ Deal iPad Pro Best Buy has discounted the...

Apple Watch Series 4 and ECG App Helped One Man Identify AFIB Heart Condition

Image
The Apple Watch Series 4 launched not too long ago, and Apple (eventually) brought with it a brand new ECG app that’s meant to help identify specific heart irregularities. And while some doctors are on the fence on whether or not the ECG app in the newest Apple-branded smartwatch is a good thing or not , the device has already been pegged for potentially saving one person’s life even before the end of 2018 . And now, just as 2019 is getting started, we have another report that says the new app was crucial in identifying AFIB heart conditions in one man over the holidays. WMUR has the report on Wednesday, telling the story of Barry Madden, a self-identified “tech geek”, who purchased the new Apple Watch Series 4 mainly for its ability to detect falls. Madden suffered a brain injury in the past, and he figured that particular feature would be a good one to have, just in case. And to help him keep a better eye on his overall health. But it turns out the ECG app act...

Apple Reportedly Told Chinese iPhone Venders to Drop iPhone 8, iPhone XR, iPhone XS and XS Max Prices

Image
There are always two sides to every story, and that definitely appears to be the case when it comes to how the iPhone market is doing. Earlier today, there was a report that Apple had cut iPhone XS and iPhone XR production by upwards of 10 percent for the firs quarter of 2019. And that comes after plenty of other analyst memos and separate reports that have suggested that Apple’s iPhone sales aren’t that great. Of course, it probably doesn’t help that Apple warned of a less-than-stellar first fiscal quarter coming up. Still, Apple is confident in the iPhone, and has said that the iPhone XR, specifically, is doing just fine . Here we are with another report out of China, though, painting a different picture. According to National Business Daily , Apple has informed Chinese vendors to cut the price of several different iPhone models. That includes the iPhone 8, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. The report indicates that the majority of the models are seeing a di...

Tim Cook: New Services Launching in 2019; Wearable Business Revenue Has Exceeded iPod Business by 50 Percent

Image
In his extensive interview with Mad Money’s Jim Cramer, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the company’s most important contribution to mankind will be in health. Tim Cook spoke about varying topics in the interview and dismissed reports of the iPhone XR not doing well as a part of it. The CEO even hinted at Apple launching new services this year. Cook revealed this when Cramer asked him how Apple would increase the total contribution of its Services business to its total revenue. He did not go into the specifics but clearly stated that Apple will announce new services this year, with “more things coming” and the company working on them for a few years now. On services, you will see us announce new services this year. There will more things coming. I don’t wanna tell you about what they are and I’m not gonna forecast precisely, the ramps and so forth. But they’re things that we feel really great about, that we’ve been working on for multiple years. Apple is rumored to...

Tim Cook Says ‘Bologna on That’ in Regards to Reports of the iPhone XR Being a ‘Flop’

Image
As mentioned earlier today, Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, took some time out of his schedule to discuss Apple’s current state of affairs . And, unsurprisingly, the chief executive wasn’t having any of it when it comes to dark times for the company. CNBC shared some of the major points earlier today, but one of the more interesting parts that came out of the full interview was Cook’s stance on how the iPhone XR — the company’s other iPhone it launched late last year alongside the iPhone XS and XS Max — is faring out there in the market. As you may have heard by now, some folks don’t think the iPhone XR is doing too well. However, Apple has never agreed with that belief . While the company won’t go into the nitty gritty details, and won’t even offer sales numbers for the iPhone lineup later this month during its upcoming quarterly earnings call, Cook did reiterate that the iPhone XR has been the most popular iPhone for customers to buy...

CES 2019: A New Service is Using AI to Find Password Sharers

Image
Password sharing is a thing. There’s no denying that. Whether it’s a college campus or family and friends, services like Netflix, Hulu, and others have their content shared all the time. Right out of the gate, that’s not a bad thing. Companies love to have people viewing their content, and it gets word of mouth out there. However, there’s a point where a company reaches a certain maturity level and watching its content get pirated just doesn’t cut it anymore. That’s where a company called Synamedia, which is based out of the United Kingdom, comes in. The Verge has a profile of the company out of CES 2019, and how it will be using artificial intelligence to track down people who share passwords and then share that information with the companies. Synamedia has a platform that companies can buy, which will then be used to analyze data from that company’s user base. From there, Synamedia will be able to see when an account is being accessed, from w...

Tim Cook Says Apple’s Ecosystem ‘Has Never Been Stronger’

Image
If anyone is going to go to bat for a company, it should be the chief executive. Enter Tim Cook, stage left, following warnings of a forthcoming weak first quarter . In an interview with CNBC , Tim Cook says that the company is doing just fine as a whole, and that the company’s ecosystem is ” probably underappreciated”. Cook also reaches back and pulls out an oldie but goodie, saying that there is still a “culture of innovation” at Apple, that the company hasn’t lost sight of that. As it relates to stock prices? Well, Appel’s CEO says that he’s seen the same negative remarks in the past, and has seen the same shortcomings in the market, too: “In terms of the naysayer, I’ve heard this over and over again,” Cook said in an exclusive interview with Jim Cramer. “I’ve heard it in 2001, I’ve heard it in 2005, in ‘7, in ‘8, in ’10, in ’12 and ’13. You can probably find the same quo...

This Concept Envisions the iPhone X2 With a Slider Design

Image
The leaked iPhone XI renders have left many people disappointed. While it is exciting that Apple is switching to a triple camera setup for its 2019 iPhone, the camera setup looks a bit odd. Well, there’s still hope for the 2020 iPhone and we hope Apple takes some inspiration from this crazy iPhone X2 concept which takes design cues from the original iPhone.  The iPhone X2 concept envisions an iPhone with the same curvy edges as the original iPhone and keeping with the trend, it also comes with a slider similar to the Mi Mix 3 and Oppo Find X which houses the front camera. The inclusion of a slider means this concept iPhone X2 lacks a notch which many people seem to hate. The rear camera setup in this concept iPhone X2 is definitely interesting, with multi-camera setup being relatively compact despite housing four camera lenses. This kind of technology is likely a few years away so don’t really expect it to show up on an iPhone anytime soon in the foreseeable future. The con...

Image
After Samsung, LG, and Vizio , Sony has now announced AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support for its new 8K LCD and 4K OLED Master Series TVs. Like announced by other OEMs, AirPlay 2 support means iPhone/iPad and Mac owners would be able to stream content from their device to their TV effortlessly. Apple updated its AirPlay 2 page on Day 0 of CES 2019 to highlight that  that “leading TV manufacturers” will be integrating AirPlay 2 directly into their TVs. The HomeKit integration means the TVs will show up in the Home app on iOS and allow users to control their TV using Siri. Sony also highlights that users can add their TV to scenes where they can chain multiple commands into one. Sony Z9G Series, A9G Series and X950G Series TVs will be compatible with Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit 3 . AirPlay 2 lets you effortlessly stream content from your iPhone, iPad and Mac right to your Sony TV. Watch movies and TV shows from iTunes and your other video apps, and view photos directly on your Son...

Apple Seeds iOS 12.1.3, watchOS 5.1.3 Beta 3 to Developers [Updated]

Image
Courtesy of the holiday break, Apple took some time off from seeding new beta releases. But now the grind is back on. Apple today officially seeded the third developer beta of iOS 12.1.3 and watchOS 5.1.3. As is par for the course, these particular beta seeds are specifically meant for developers out there testing the prerelease software. For registered developers, the new software is available to download as an over-the-air (OTA) software update on their registered devices. To update to iOS 12.1.3, developers simply need to open Settings –> General –> Software Update and follow the onscreen instructions. The latest beta can also be downloaded directly from Apple’s developer portal. To update to watchOS 5.1.3, developers need to make sure that the Apple Watch is on its charger, has at least 50 percent battery life, and that the smartwatch is within range and connected to an iPhone. The new software can be downloaded by opening the Watch app, then opening General ...

CES 2019: ZAGG Intros Three New Keyboard Cases for the iPad and iPad Pro

Image
This year’s Consumer Electronics Show has officially kicked off, which means there are more new accessory announcements than you can shake a stick at. ZAGG, for instance, has a brand new trio of keyboard cases to unveil on Monday. Each are different in specific ways, but they all share the same backlit keys and a dedicated storage option for the Apple Pencil. So, let’s get right into it: First up is the Slim Book Pro, which you can find pictured in this article. This is meant to be a relatively thin option to protect your 9.7-inch iPad. The case features a detachable keyboard, which means you can get some work done or detach it to keep it a more tablet-only setup. The company says that the 9.7-inch iPad option will be joined with a Slim Book Go case for the 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models later this spring. Here’s how ZAGG describes the Rugged Book Go: “Engineered to operate in harsher conditions, the ZAGG Rugged Book Go includes the same popular features of th...

Apple Supplier Announces New Light and Proximity Sensors to Help Shrink the 2019 iPhone Notch

Image
Apple obviously has its own pipe dreams related to the iPhone, but it can only go so far based on the realities of the technology available to it. That’s why the notch on the iPhone X, and the iPhone XS/XS Max and iPhone XR are so big. However, word on the street is starting to pick up steam that Apple is looking to make a pretty big change in terms of notch size, and it may happen as early as this year. We’ve heard previous rumblings that Apple was planning on introducing a smaller notch in 2019, and that seems to be getting corroborated from different sources at this point. Now, as Reuters reported on Monday, one of Apple’s key suppliers is making headway in helping Apple reduce the size of the notch — and maybe get rid of it entirely at some point in the near future. AMS officially announced today that it has developed new under-display light and proximity sensors. The new IR proximity and RGB light sensors can still function just as they are intended to, eve...

Image
2019 is apparently going to be a bold new year for Apple, as the company has already announced that its AirPlay 2 feature will be expanding to Samsung smart TVs . While that was big news all by itself, it didn’t take long before the company then confirmed that AirPlay 2 would be added to the features list for a variety of different smart TVs out there , courtesy of some of the biggest names in the industry. Indeed, it didn’t take long before Vizio officially announced its own adoption plans for the feature, with its SmartCast-enabled TVs getting the feature at some point in the near future. Not to be outdone, LG has now confirmed that it, too, will be supporting AirPlay 2 and HomeKit in its smart TV lineup as well. That means future owners will be able to mirror content from their Mac or iOS device to the TV, as well as ask Siri to play certain content on the TV, or stream music directly to the AirPlay 2-enabled receiver. CES 2019: Kohler Introduces HomeKit-Enabled Sensate Faucet

Image
There have been faucets on the market, specifically from Kohler, that allow for hands-free usage. But now things are getting really interesting. Today, during the start of CES 2019, Kohler has introduced a brand new Sensate faucet that actually provides support for voice commands. The faucet will allow owners to tell Siri to turn on the water, thanks to built-in HomeKit support. (The Sensate Faucet also supports Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant as well.) As noted by Engadget , the faucet will not only let you turn the water on or off, but also pour an exact amount. So if you want to pour three cups of water out of the faucet, you can simply ask Siri to do that and the Sensate Faucet will oblige. “The Sensate Touchless kitchen faucet with KOHLER Konnect allows users to turn the water on or off and dispense measured amounts of water through simple voice commands or motion-based interactions. Consumers can fill an eight-ounce cup of water or a large pot with hands-free voice...
